Mr Roser

What do you write?

Mr Roser

What crews are you in?

RARE KIND  7FIVE  The FAM  RT  RYO  CPS  and TFS mainly..

Around what year did you first get into Graffiti?

I first started writing around 93 with my crew RYO..We were all mates from school. . Every weekend we used to meet up in Kilburn, meaning I would have to travel the north London line.. I would mentally note all the new pieces, and we’d compare who’d spotted what and what new things had appeared. . We did our first pieces and dubs around Kilburn.. Mostly in Kilburn waste ground finchley wastegound and also Tuff Park and Camden pitch..At the time I was looking up to people like tks dds pfb tfg shk wt tcm wal tbf ktc and wd. I remember Diet and Sub were killing it..  I think it was Kame  who first showed me how to do drop shades back in Kilburn wasteground .. But from as far back as I remember I used to see all the dubs coming out of Paddington station and west way. I’m sure this was a big influence on me too.. Big up Fat Sam..

You grew up around Tufnell Park, what was it like having one of London’s most famous HOF’s in your area?

I loved it, I remember when I first found the park, just couldn’t believe it , I could have stayed in there all day taking pics ..Back then it was a legendary place you’d have all sorts of people thru that place ..I met many people there back in the days ..I also spent many hours painting in there, and obviously there have been some of London’s most classic paintings done there .. …And still continues to be painted today..Its definitely one of the reasons why I love graffiti so much and even got into it in the first place....

What made you move from London to Brighton, some would say London’s scene is far better then Brighton’s?

I first moved to Brighton for a few reasons.. But painting was one of them ..Back when I moved to Brighton it just seemed to have a good load of graffiti in a small place plus the rest of RK had shifted there.. I went down to paint for a weekend and ended up staying.. With hindsight I guess it did kind of limit our options Graff wise, but in other ways it has also provided other options which London couldn’t, such as the shop and work.. . Plus the amount of writers ive met in Brighton is crazy ..But I would totally agree with the statement London does have a better scene . .  Or maybe jus indefinitely more plots.. Plus in my and many others eyes London is home to our countries greatest writers..

How and when did you get involved with the Rare Kind Family?

I joined them back in 97, I was writing at the time with a few old mates in a crew called CPS and TFS. We were all hitting more or less the same areas around north/north west London. Then thru raving and mates of mates we eventually met.. I think we first painted together as a crew in the old Camden pitch.. Since weve been in Brighton the Rare Kind Family has grown and grown..

You paint a lot of legal walls, what’s the difference for you from a legal to an illegal?

For me I love to paint, painting a legal lets me do what I love in the daytime enjoying a beer or whatever with mates.. Plus I grew up painting waste grounds and h.o.f’s so its just what im used too...... Nowadays living in Brighton it’s simply too small, if you go bombing the whole town knows by the morning. .Its really all about London if illegal graffiti’s your game in my eyes.. I just do what I do, if an opportunity presents itself ill try and leave my name..

Looking at your recent pieces you really have come along way in the past few years, would you say this is down to your consistency with painting legal walls?

Mate I aint ever happy with what I create, I do try and paint as much as I can (work allowing) and I also try and sketch as much as possible too .Im not really one of these people who do all the detailed themed backgrounds and that, for me im just into doing letters so that’s what I concentrate on. I love the London letter styles.. But the truth is, it’s just the product of 14 years miss spent..

What’s your view on all these toys that come to legals and tend to dogg full colour pieces, could it be stopped in anyway?

I doubt im one too talk, when I was young I used to do the occasional background tag or whatever..but I would never have pointlessly dogged any pieces… I guess its jus one of those things.. That’s why there called it..

What well known artist’s have you painted with?

well… its hard to remember all but , zombie , elk . cope 2,  atg , aroe , anie, rat, verge rt, petro, rk, cispeo  .. Obviously on jam walls etc there have been many more…I remember the sleeping giants jams to be just crazy.. Nuff people, good atmosphere, sunshine plus I felt our lot pulled of some proper good walls, oddisy das hot soleo juse tzar vibes choe intro tures town..

Tell us about one of your most memorable Graffiti experiences?

It was good to paint on the cope wall, seeing Seen, and Blade also..But I think my most memorable Graff related experience has to be early on probably racking paint out in st Albans with my old partner Never.. Or when I first moved to Brighton painting old trains in the daytime at the ghost yard with das n hot... .

Would you say Graffiti has changed your life in anyway?

With no doubt I would say that Graff has definitely changed my life.. in many many ways.. Just from giving me a place to go, something to do and concentrate on when I was younger, to the whole way I live my life now.. I believe something like graffiti gives you a different way of looking at things maybe a different mentality. But definitely there is a whole lifestyle that goes hand in hand with graffiti, which to most people would be considered abnormal.. To be honest I can’t really remember life before graffiti but I know if I hadn’t got into it, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Most people I know were met thru writing…

What do you think the future has installed for you?
